September wird die Bürgermeisterin von Quakenbrück, Tülay Tsolak (selbst Tochter von Migranten), die Ausstellung eröffnen, und wir werden als Radio Artland mit einer Licht- und Klanginstallation dabei sein. Radio Artland, the independent, non-profit radio station from the northern district of Osnabrück, is presenting an impressive work of art in collaboration with the SPD directly at Quakenbrück train station: “Europe’s Borders”, created by artist Werner Kavermann. On the September 5th the Quakenbrück Mayor – Tülay Tsolak (the daughter from migrant parents herself) will open the exhibition, and we will be there as Radio Artland with a light and sound installation. KUNST AM BAHNHOF – „EUROPAS GRENZEN“ IN QUAKENBRÜCK
Radio Artland, der unabhängige, gemeinnützige Radiosender aus dem Osnabrücker Nordkreis, präsentiert in Zusammenarbeit mit der SPD und Bündnis 90/Die Grünen ein eindrucksvolles Kunstwerk direkt am Bahnhof Quakenbrück: „Europas Grenzen“, geschaffen von dem Künstler Werner Kavermann.
Vom Ort aus, an dem Radio Artland genreübergreifende Klänge in die Welt hinaussendet, setzt dieses Kunstwerk ein klares Zeichen:
Musik kennt keine Grenzen – wir Menschen leider schon.
Mauern, Zäune, Barrieren – im Kopf wie auch in der Realität. Radio Artland steht für Offenheit, Vielfalt und eine gemeinsame Kultur des Respekts. Wir vereinen Menschen aller Musikrichtungen, Altersgruppen, Geschlechter, Herkunft und Lebensrealitäten. Wir sagen klar: Kein Platz für Rassismus, Sexismus, Homophobie, Fremdenfeindlichkeit oder Hass. Stattdessen: Musik, Kunst und Menschlichkeit.
Anlass für das Kunstprojekt war das 375-jährige Jubiläum des Westfälischen Friedens.
Werner Kavermanns Werk wurde erstmals auf dem Domplatz in Osnabrück gezeigt. Auf Initiative der Kreistagsabgeordneten Claus Kanke und Robert Giddens fand es anschließend einen neuen Platz am Kreishaus Osnabrück.
Nun kommt das Kunstwerk erstmals in den Nordkreis – nach Quakenbrück, als deutliches Zeichen für Offenheit, Vielfalt und Zusammenhalt.
Das Kunstwerk entstand in Kooperation mit der Seebrücke Osnabrück, die sich gegen das Sterben im Mittelmeer einsetzt. Es handelt sich um eine übergroße Europalette, gekrönt mit NATO-Draht – ein kraftvolles Symbol für die Abschottung Europas gegenüber Menschen aus dem globalen Süden. Im Kontrast dazu steht die europäische Handelspolitik, die möglichst grenzenlosen Warenverkehr erlaubt – während Menschen der freie Zugang oft verwehrt bleibt.
Kavermanns Werk nimmt Bezug auf Immanuel Kants Idee des Weltbürgerrechts – als Voraussetzung für dauerhaften Frieden.
Das Mahnmal wird gemeinsam von Radio Artland und der Firma USED auf deren Gelände direkt am Bahnhof Quakenbrück installiert, beleuchtet und für alle sichtbar gemacht. In einer Stadt, in der Menschen aus über 93 Nationen leben, ist dieses Kunstwerk ein Appell: Verständnis, Mitgefühl und Solidarität dürfen nicht an Grenzen enden.
Unterstützt wird das Projekt von den Fraktionen der SPD und Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.

Die Seebrücke Osnabrück zeigt Solidarität mit Menschen in Not – und mit denen, die an ihrer Rettung gehindert werden. Es ist höchste Zeit, dass Parteien und Regierungen unser NEIN zum Sterben im Mittelmeer deutlicher spüren als den Druck von Stammtischen.
Fluchtursachen bekämpfen ist richtig – Flüchtlinge dem Sterben auszuliefern ist ein Verbrechen.

PPPS: Wer ist Werner Kavermann?
Werner Kavermann ist seit über 20 Jahren als freischaffender Künstler und Musiker in Osnabrück aktiv. Nach seinem Kunststudium war er mit zahlreichen Ausstellungen in ganz Deutschland – insbesondere in der Region Osnabrück – vertreten.

ART AT THE STATION – “EUROPE’S BORDERS” IN QUAKENBRÜCK
Radio Artland, the independent, non-profit radio station from the northern district of Osnabrück, proudly presents – in collaboration with the SPD and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen – a striking new art installation at Quakenbrück station: “Europe’s Borders”, created by artist Werner Kavermann.
From the very place where Radio Artland broadcasts genre-defying sounds to the world, this artwork sends a clear message: Music knows no borders – sadly, we humans still do.
Walls, fences, barriers – in our minds and in reality. Radio Artland stands for openness, diversity, and a shared culture of respect. We bring together people of all musical styles, ages, genders, origins, and walks of life. We say it loud and clear: No room for racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, or hate. Instead: Music, art, and humanity.
The inspiration for this art project was the 375th anniversary of the Peace of Westphalia. Werner Kavermann’s work was first exhibited on the cathedral square in Osnabrück. Thanks to an initiative by county council members Claus Kanke and Robert Giddens, the piece later found a new home outside the district administration building in Osnabrück.
Now, for the first time, the artwork is coming to the northern part of the district – to Quakenbrück – as a powerful statement of openness, diversity, and solidarity.
The piece was created in cooperation with Seebrücke Osnabrück, an organization campaigning against the death of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea. The installation features an oversized Euro-pallet crowned with NATO barbed wire – a stark symbol of Europe’s growing fortification against people from the Global South. In contrast, European trade policy continues to promote the near-borderless flow of goods – while free movement for people remains restricted.
Kavermann’s work draws on Immanuel Kant’s concept of universal human rights as a precondition for lasting peace.
The memorial is being installed and illuminated at the Radio Artland & the USED Bicycle company site right next to Quakenbrück station – made visible for all. In a city where people from over 93 nations live side by side, this artwork is a call to action: Empathy, compassion, and solidarity must not stop at borders.
